2019 Veterans World Qualifier results

While the youngsters were fighting at one edge of Europe, the veterans were in London for the first of the three qualifying competitions for this year's World Championships.  There were Gold medals for Sheila Anderson (WF Cat 3), Viv Frith (WS Cat 4) and Hugh Kernohan (ME Cat 3).  Michele Narey (WS Cat 2) and Barry Coulter (MS Cat 3) won Silvers and Maggie Tait (WE Cat 3) and Mike McKay (MF Cat 2) Bronzes.  It was also excellent  to see Stephen Rennie back in competition as he recovers from the serious accident he had at the end of last year.

2018 Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships

Scottish Veteran Fencers will be representing their country in Canberra, Australia in November this year. The Veteran Commonwealths will be running alongside the Senior Commonwealth events over the 6 days of competition from 23rd to 28th November 2018.

2018 Veterans 4 Nations Match - Results

The overall result for the 2018 Veterans 4 Nations match was as follows

  1. England - 21 points
  2. Scotland - 18 points
  3. Ireland - 12 points
  4. Wales - 9 points

Meaning that England retains the Justin Smith Trophy.

Big Successes at Veterans Age Groups

Big successes at the Veteran Age Group qualifier this week for Scottish fencers qualifying them for the European team championships in the Netherlands. For those who won gold, there is also a guaranteed place for the World Championships in Livorno Italy in October.

2017 European Veteran Fencing Championships, 25 -28 May

Mike McKay finishes 8th! Great Britain won 2 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze medals at the 2017 European Veteran Fencing Championships - a very successful event! 

The Championships (individual) are held every 2 years and this year the lovely Italian town of Chiavari near Genoa was the host. This is an open event and there were over 1470 fencers across all 6 weapons in all age groups.

There were 8 fencers from Scotland who entered.
